Mongkol Phara || Russia's Vladimir Putin oversees hypersonic missile test near Crimea

(CNN)Russian President Vladimir Putin oversaw military exercises off the coast of Crimea on Thursday that included the launching of a hypersonic missile system.
Russia's Black Sea and Northern Fleets held joint drills in the Black Sea during which they practiced the launch of the Kalibr cruise missiles and the hypersonic air-launched ballistic missile Kinzhal, according to Russian state news agency TASS.
More than 30 ships, 40 aircraft and one submarine were involved in the exercises, TASS reported.
"The drills have been held successfully," Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, reported to Putin.
"The drills have been held successfully," Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, reported to Putin.
Two MIG-31K fighters practiced target-firing using the Kinzhal ballistic missile and crews of the Admiral Grigorovich frigate, small missile ship Orekhovo-Zuyevo and submarine Kolpino tested the launch of the Kalibr missiles.
Putin watched the launches from aboard the Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser.
Hypersonic is generally defined as a speed of Mach 5, or over 3,836 mph. The missiles fly into space after launch, but then come down and fly at high speeds on a flight path similar to that of an airplane. Their lower trajectory make them more difficult for US missile defense satellites and radars to detect.

Mongkol Phara || iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, 2 months later: The ultrawide camera

In a season filled with new phone releases such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and the Google Pixel 4, the new iPhone 1111 Pro and Pro Max impressed me early on. Apple packed its latest phones with a new ultrawide-angle camera, an A13 processor, Night Mode for photos, iOS 13 and one of the best all-around camera systems found on any phone today. Plus, the two Pro models have improved battery life.
Over the past two months, I used the iPhone 11 as my daily driver and the 11 Pro as my work phone. During that time, CNET has also done in-depth tests dropping the phonessubmerging them underwater and comparing their cameras with other phones. Here are my thoughts on both these phones over the course of my usage

iOS 13: From buggy to stable

When I first got the phones, the software felt rough. The camera app on the iPhone 11 Pro frequently froze and crashed. Screens didn't always scale and rotate properly. After seven software updates, I'm running iOS 13.2.3 now and everything seems relatively stable.
That being said, there are a few things about iOS 13 that need some work. When I send someone a text in Messages and put my phone down on the table, I inadvertently hit the Dictation button all the time. I'm right-handed and the microphone icon is at the bottom right of the Messages keyboard. This drives me nuts.
The home screen on iOS is also tedious. I wish there was more flexibility for organizing app icons to make them easier to reach. Samsung's One UI changed the Galaxy phone interface to be simpler and more natural to use. In Samsung One UI app icons, popup windows and folders utilize the lower part of the screen. This makes the phone easier to use with one hand.On the iPhone, app icons fill the home screen the same way you read a book: left to right, top to bottom. It would be wonderful if I could freely move icons to any part of the home screen. And if that's not possible, just having an option to fill the screen from the bottom up would help with one-handed use.
Some of these issues are solved with the built-in feature known as Reachability, which slides the entire display down so the top fills the bottom of the phone temporarily. The downside is that it requires an extra swipe before and after you open an app at the top of the screen. Allowing me to move app icons where I wanted would largely make Reachability unnecessary, at least on the home screen, and save me from having to perform extra swipes.
In iOS 13 on the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, I also have the hardest time getting Select/Select All tool to appear for choosing text. I don't know if this has to do with the lack of 3D Touch on the new iPhones or if it's a straight-up bug. But when I'm trying to select a word or a phrase, I can't get the right tap pressure or duration to get the Select/Select All tool to popup. And sometimes when it does, the tool goes away too fast. I'm not sure what's going on there, but it's annoying.
Speaking of annoying, in iOS 13 when you create a new note in the Notes app and type a sentence, it is automatically formatted as a title. I hate this because I just want to start typing the actual body of my note, especially when I'm making a list. In previous versions of iOS title formatting wasn't on by default. Now there are probably people out there who would love to begin right at the title. I'm not them. If you're a non "title" person like me, you can resolve this format anarchy by going into Settings > Notes > New Notes Start With and change it back to "body," which lets you begin writing the actual body of your note.

Battery: iPhone 11 Pro battery life has really improved

On the inside, both phones are exactly the same. They have an A13 processor and the same amount of RAM, even though Apple doesn't share exactly how much. I didn't notice any difference in performance between the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.
But in terms of battery there are differences. In my use, the 11 Pro lasted longer on a charge than last year's iPhone XS. I can typically go a day and a half between charges on the iPhone 11 Pro. And I can easily stretch that to two days with Low Battery mode. On the 11, I got a solid day of use out of it on a single charge. If I'm not using it heavily playing games or watching videos, it can last a day and a half. But if you want the best battery life, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is the way to go.
The new iPhones all have wireless charging and support fast charging, but only the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max come with the 18-watt charger needed to use fast charging. It's curious how something as mundane sounding as fast charging really changed my use patterns with my iPhone. I've gone from charging my phone overnight to charging it over my lunch break with the fast charger. But it's aggravating that the 11 doesn't come with this charger and that if you want one, you'll have to buy it separately. To make matters worse, Apple charges $29 (£29, AU$49) for the 18-watt fast charger and $19 (£19, AU$29) for the cable. (Cheaper compatible alternatives are available.)

The iPhone 11 is an ideal phone for a photographer

When I first got the phones, I thought the new ultrawide-angle camera might be more of a gimmick. But I later became a fan of how it can show more of a scene in my frame. For example, I was at O'Hare airport in Chicago and wanted to take a photo of a dinosaur skeleton wearing a Bears jersey. I couldn't get the whole dino in frame with the main camera, but when I switched to the ultrawide angle camera, the entire skeleton fit into my photo. (For the record, I'm not a Bears fan.)

Mongkol Phara ||Premier League hits and misses: Can Duncan Ferguson land the Everton job full-time?

The best of the weekend's talking points, from Duncan Ferguson doing his job prospects no harm to Leicester's pantomime villain and more rough treatment for Adama Traore...

Manchester United must have a special place in the heart of Duncan Ferguson. During his time as a player, he scored more Premier League goals against United than any other opponent.

Those performances and career-changing moments against them helped him become a Toffees legend. Fast forward two nearly decades and Old Trafford might just have been the place where he convinced the Everton hierarchy that he's the man to lead Everton into the post-Marco Silva era.

Despite having to play without four of the starting XI that started in the win over Chelsea due to injuries and illness, Everton adapted well to the changes, playing with great tenacity and character with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin providing a strong outlet in the final third.
Ferguson even showed the ruthlessness to hook the underperforming Moise Kean after bringing him on just 18 minutes earlier, claiming he "needed to make a substitution to kill a bit of time".
An authoritative act and one that potentially shows that he's not a manager to be messed with. Everton now have a big decision to make.

    Mongkol Worship and ceremonies

Early in the Bangkok period, the Emerald Buddha was removed from the temple and paraded in the streets to relieve the city and countryside of various calamities (such as plague and cholera). However, this practice was discontinued during Rama IV's reign as it was feared that the image could get damaged during the procession and also a practical line of thinking that Rama IV held "that diseases are caused by germs, not by evil spirits or the displeasure of the Buddha". The image also marks the changing of the seasons in Thailand, with the king presiding over the seasonal ceremonies.[2]
Like many other Buddha statues in Thailand, the Emerald Buddha is dressed in a seasonal costume. It is a significant ritual held at this temple. In this ritual, dress of the deity is changed three times a year to correspond to the seasons. In summer it is a pointed crown of gold and jewels, and a set of jewelled ornaments that adorns the image from the shoulders to the ankles. In winter, a meshed dressing gown or drapery made of gold beads that covered from the neck down like a poncho is used. During the rainy months, a top-knot headdress studded with gold, enamel and sapphires; the gold attire in the rainy season is draped over the left shoulder of the deity, only with the right shoulder left bare while gold ornaments embellish the image up to the ankles. The astrological dates for the ritual ceremonies, at the changing of the seasons, followed are in the 1st waning moon of lunar months 4, 8 and 12 (around March, July and November). The costume change ritual is performed by the Thai king who is the highest master of ceremonies for all Buddhist rites. On each occasion, the king himself "cleans the image by wiping away any dust that has collected and changing the headdress of the image". Then a king's royal attendant climbs up and performs the elaborate ritual of changing garments of the image as the king is chanting prayers to the deity. On this occasion, the king sprinkles water over the monks and the faithful who have assembled to witness the unique ritual and seeks blessings of the deity for good fortune during the upcoming season. The two sets of clothing not in use at any given time are kept on display in the nearby Pavilion of Regalia, Royal Decorations and Coins in the precincts of the Grand Palace. While Rama I initiated this ritual for the hot season and the rainy season, Rama III introduced the ritual for the winter season.[2][4] The robes that the image adorns, represents that of monks and King's depending on the season, a clear indication of highlighting its symbolic role "as Buddha and the King", which role is also enjoined on the Thai King who formally dresses the Emerald Buddha image.[14]
A ceremony that is observed in the wat is the Chakri Day (begun on 6 April 1782), a national holiday to honour founding of the Chakri dynasty. On this day, the king attends the ceremony. The former king Rama IX, with his Queen, and entourage of the royal family, the Prime Minister, officials in the Ministry of Defence, and other government departments, first offered prayers at the Emerald Buddha temple. This was followed by visit to the pantheon to pay homage to the images of past Chakri rulers that are installed there.[2]
The Coronation of the Thai monarch is an important event of the Chakri dynasty. One such event took place when Rama IX was crowned the king. On this occasion, the hing came to the Chapel Royal, Wat Phra Keo, in a procession wearing a "great crown". After entering the chapel, the king made offerings of gold and silver flowers to the deity and also lighted candles. He also paid homage to the images of Buddha that represented past kings of the dynasty. In the presence of assembled elite clergy of the kingdom, he took a formal vow of his religion and his commitment to defend the faith.[2
